When I first visited Henley on Thames in England, I didn’t know what I loved the most – its market in the center of the town, the main street with many Georgian frontages covering old buildings or the lovely little pubs located on the shore of the river Thames.

This town is not only vibrant, it is picturesque. When you visit Henley, it is impossible that the small restaurants and pubs which look like little cottages, not to draw your attention, so you won’t resist not to step by to have a coffee.

The 18th Century Stone Bridge connects Henley with the other towns in Oxfordshire region. So I will stop to one of the fairytale locations right near the bridge, because from here any tourist can take some beautiful pictures with the town and with river Thames also. The Angel on the Bridge it is always a crowded location, no matter if it’s spring, summer, autumn or winter.

The Angel on the Bridge is described by the owners as a warm, welcoming and cosy pub, that attracts many visitors to the town. And indeed, I can confirm you this pub will offer you not only a good taste, but one of the best landscapes in Henley.

In summer the riverside terrace offers outdoor eating, you can socialise and relax to escape the crowded areas and watch the river go by.

Shared with the local swans and wildlife, the Angel on the Bridge is a popular place during the day and evening, during your coffee break from work or just a quiet place for you to take a break from shopping. You can always step by for a brunch, for a more festive dinner or just for a drink.

The prices are good for any visitor, you can enjoy the traditional British Homemade char-grilled beef burger with cheese and bacon with fries and coleslaw, the Breaded Scampi and chips with garden peas and tartar sauce, or you can have just a starter or a full dinner with dessert also.

I chose from the Lawlor’s Bakers Menu with Bloomer or Wholemeal Bread Served with Coleslaw and Dressed Mixed Leaves. So for only 7.50 pounds the Smoked salmon and prawn Marie Rose were just perfect for my Saturday walk in a warm autumn day.

The restaurant is very crowded in summer during Henley Royal Regatta and Henley Festival, when most of the places are reserved before.

If you come by car, being a small town, parking is quite limited around the pub, but there is available a road side parking using a pay and display machine.

The cold evenings during winter will invite you inside to experience the friendly atmosphere, the great food and the local beer. The Angel on the bridge in Henley on Thames is definitely a must for any visitor who comes to this beautiful town in England.

There are many ways to enjoy the River Thames as it flows through one the most famous streets in Henley. You can get on the river with a scheduled trip, hire a boat yourself or even learn to row. If that’s too much for you, then you can relax in one of the parks with a picnic or stroll along the banks. Henley’s river can be enjoyed all year round.

Besides the cosy pubs, you have to know that Henley is a town with an international reputation for the world’s greatest rowing regatta and  the arts festival in summer.

I invite you to be a fairytale traveller to Henley on Thames and to enjoy your coffee to Angel on the Bridge. The swans will draw for you an excellent Saturday afternoon!

See you soon. 🙂
